New Zealand – Day 8 (14/6/23)

KAIKOURA

Today has been a very special day so bare with all of the excited rambling hahaha

Got the kiwi buss from Christchurch to Kaikoura was such a beautiful journey ! Really loving these journeys ! A lot of it was along the coast and ahh wow just so beautiful

Stopped for a walk along the beachy and there were seals SO CLOSE hahaha

SO today we booked a dolphin experience where you go out to the pod of wild dolphins and you can swim with them !! They are really curious creatures so your told that if you make noises, splash and sing then they will come up and play with you ! We were told all this but I didn’t know how much of it would have been true or how many there would be and oh my ahhh it just surpassed everything I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into world how incredible this experience was really !!

We then got put in all our gear for swimming. It’s still quite cold so it’s so nice to have a thick wet suit hahah not what I’m used to these days lol

So we got into the boat and boated out about (that’s a funny little sentence haha) 25-30 minutes and then you started to see them ! At first it just looked like loads of ripples and then you got closer and they were all jumping AHHH not going to lie I did have a little cry it was just so beautiful. Also felt sorry for my mum coz I know how much she would have loved to have seen that she’s constantly looking for dolphins, she will look for them at heysham head if it was a nice day ! Hahah.

SO THEN !! We GOT IN !!! We were in the water about an hour but we would swim then get back on the boat get back to the pod and swim again so it was amazing we got to spend so much time with them !

Oh boy 😭😭😭 it was just incredible !!!! I feel like I can’t type how exited the tone of my voice is hahaha. You would be swimming and there would be like 30 all around you !!! We sang under the sea the whole time ahhahahha they seemed to like that they must sing it themselves we were so happy we went to watch the little mermaid yesterday hahaa suddenly under the sea is a very special song ! It was so funny because the boat told us that they couldn’t hear us but at the end they said they were all singing under the sea hahaha

They told us we were swimming in a pod of 400 !!!! WHAT !!

It was just incredible because you would sing and they would come right up to you and if you span in circles they would spin with you and play with you ! Was unbelievable ! Especially getting eye contact with them wow it was just so special WHAT HOW DID THIS HAPPEN !! It was also very funny because me and Molly had the whole pod to ourselves because everyone else got sea sick hahaha oops

There was a moment on our last swim where they all swam away but me and Molly were singing and splashing so much the whole pod came back ! The man said that doesn’t happen often but he could jsut be saying that 😏

There’s more videos of them all jumping but there not uploading haha. Anywayyy yeh so that was a very special day ahhaa. Went back to hostel and me and Molly made pesto pasta beautiful

Sorry for the chaoticness of this blog hahaha. Was a wonderfull day and one I will truly never forget. I really nearly didn’t do it because I was worried about money and then it nearly got cancelled because there weren’t enough swimmers but ahh wow just so so grateful for it. THANK YOU LORD
